Liposuction, also known as liposculpture, is a process where small tubes are inserted into the fat just below the skin, to remove excess fat deposits. Liposculpture is a treatment designed for patients who want to improve the shape of specified areas of the body; it’s not an appropriate treatment for obesity, and certainly doesn’t replace regular exercise and a healthy balanced diet. It’s a good treatment for people looking to deal with ‘love handles’ and fat despots in certain areas of the body, including the upper arms, the stomach, thighs, knees or ankles.
Cryolipolysis is an alternative to liposculpture for patients who are looking to target fatty deposits in specific areas of the body. Zeltique Coolscupting is a non-invasive treatment option, and is often recommended for targeting areas of fat that are proving resistant to traditional weight loss techniques, including diet and exercise considerations. This treatment involves using cold temperatures to remove fat cells without causing any damage to the surrounding tissue or skin. Zeltique Coolscuplting uses advanced technology to freeze fat cells which are then naturally eliminated from the body via the body’s normal metabolic channels. There are no needles, incisions, nor the need for anesthesia or pain medication. Patients report that they notice fat reduction in two to four months and the results last for at least 6 months – putting the treatment on a par with liposuction in terms of longevity.
Dermal fillers have been used for a significant amount of time in the world of cosmetic surgery, at least three decades. Dermal fillers have been particularly popular for treating the face and lips, reducing lines, adding volume, making the lips fuller and generally restoring the structure and volume of the face. There is a wide variety of fillers available for cosmetic treatments. As each patient is different the most suitable treatment will be discussed during your consultation with our Registered Nurse. Minimal preparation is required for dermal fillers, though you may be required to have a small test dose to check for allergies. Numbing cream is applied about 30 minutes before your treatment. You’ll see the results immediately after your first treatment session. When the filler has settled down – normally after about 2 – 4 weeks – you may require a top up session. Lip fillers are an effective treatment if you want fuller looking lips. The treatment is fairly quick with minimal downtime interrupting your daily schedule. So if you’re considering lip injections Perth, be sure to consult Academy Face & Body.
Belkyra, also known as Kybella is a non surgical treatment for reducing double chins. This treatment contains a synthesized form of deoxycholic acid which is found naturally in the body. The body normally uses this acid to help break down food. When it’s injected it destroys the fat cells in the targeted area – in this case the under chin also known as the submental area. This creates a more defined jaw line and contoured neck profile. As many as 67% of people report concerns regarding a double chin, even when taking care of their diet and exercising regularly. Age and changes in weight can add to fullness under the chin, and genetic factors also play a part. Kybella is a suitable option for patients who are concerned about having a double chin and are wanting a non-surgical solution. The injection treatment takes between 30 – 45 minutes, and you’ll need a few sessions spaced between four and six weeks apart . Most patients start to notice the results after between two and four treatments, and once the desired outcomes are achieved, additional treatments generally aren’t required.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a rejuvenation technique that works by utilizing the power of the proteins and platelets which are naturally occurring in your blood to trigger a regeneration processes. Originally used for facial treatments, as PRP methods, techniques and research has developed PRP is now been shown to be successfully used for a variety of cosmetic medical factors. Academy Face and Body uses Emcyte Pure PRP; this is the most advanced PRP Extraction system that there is, leading to a greater concentrations and efficiency than any other method that’s available.
There are a number of reasons for hair loss, and it affects both men and women. By the age of 50, about 50% of men are affected and by the age of 65 about 70% of women also show signs of hair loss, although it’s also common in much younger people of both sexes. When used as a hair treatment, the majority of patients will notice a difference between 2 and 3 months from the first treatment with an increased hair count as well as improved hair thickness. The first stage of the treatment is the extraction of anti-inflammatory white blood cells plasma, platelets and bioactive proteins. PurePRP II takes about 20 minutes to create. A micro needling pen is used over the area being treated, which creates thousands of tiny holes in the skin, triggering the regenerative process. The final stage is for the highly concentrated PRP to be hand injected by one of our experienced and skilled injectors. You’ll need to undergo about three or more treatment sessions for optimum results and an annual booster session is recommended to prolong the positive results.
To reduce wrinkles, we recommend wrinkle relaxers. Botox is perhaps one of the best known non-surgical cosmetic treatments. This involves the injection, using very fine needles, of wrinkle relaxer into the muscle, causing it to relax, therefore reducing wrinkles. While people may be worried that this treatment will leave them expressionless, this isn’t the case. At Academy Face and Body, we only inject small amounts in specific areas. You’ll generally be able to see the results after about seven days, with the maximum results becoming visible after about 2 weeks. After two weeks, we’ll review to make sure that your treatment leaves you with a perfectly naturally looking result.
Blepharoplasty is a surgical treatment to reshape the eyelid. This involves removing excess skin and fat from around the eyelid, and there are three different types of this eye lift surgery. An Upper Blepharoplasty is carried out to correct ‘hooding’ of the eyelid and involves a small incision in the crease of the upper eyelid to enable the excess fat and skin to be removed. A Lower Blepharoplasty (External Incision) is used to rectify wrinkles, puffy bags and skin excess. An incision is made close to the lower lash line in order to complete this procedure. Finally, a Lower Blepharoplasty (Internal Incision) is used for the correction of puffy bags and excess fat under the eyes. For this operation, an incision is made on the inside of the lower lid which means there is no visible scaring. With an internal incision, no skin is removed. Eyelid reshaping is a good choice for people with impaired peripheral vision, hooded upper eyelids, wrinkles under the eyes and other symptoms. The procedure takes between 60 and 90 minutes, and patients who undergo this surgery will need between seven and 14 days off work, depending on how much physical activity is required for their job. A couple of hours’ recovery time will be needed at the hospital after the operation and you’ll need someone to drive you home. If you have stitches, these will be removed after five or six days.
Facelifts are one of the most well known forms of cosmetic surgery – if you’ve ever found yourself placing your fingers in the middle of your cheeks and ‘lifting’ the skin on your face towards your ears, then a facelift maybe what you’re looking for. Returning to Australia after training in the USA, Dr. Oates has performed more facelift operations in Perth than any other doctor. Dr. Oates offers Deep Plane face lifts which is a slightly slower and more technical procedure, which offers better results. Your initial consultation with Academy Face and Body will include a full range of treatment options addressing your area of concern. For younger patients, regenerative options or non surgical treatments such as thread lifting may be a better option. In many instances, it will be a combination of treatments that are used to give you the best possible, long lasting results. Face lifts are suitable for people who have lost definition in the jawline, show signs of ‘jowling’ or a heavy neck. Facelifts aren’t suitable for patients who have concerns regarding the appearance of the upper face.
Dr. Oates will perform your face lift at our fully government licensed Academy Day Hospital in Perth, and patients generally require two to three weeks off of work after the operation for recovery. The good news is though, you won’t need to stay in hospital over night – you can be accompanied home a few hours after your operation and return the next day for bandages to be removed, and a bout a week later for stiches to be taken out. Most patients report mild to moderate discomfort with this procedure, which can be eased using Panadol. For a macs lift, Academy Face and Body is the clinic to trust in Perth.
If you are considering a face lift, but not quite sure if a full face lift is right for you yet, then the mini face lift, also called an slift may be a great option for you. It’s particularly good for people aged around 44 – 55 years. The name S Lift comes from the shape of the incisions which are made to the front of the ear. Through these incisions, underlying skin and tissues is lifted, resulting in patients having a more youthful appearance. Compared to a traditional face lift, the S lift in less invasive and therefore requires less recovery time, you don’t need to undergo a general anesthetic, it’s cheaper, there’s a lower risk of complications and it works well in combination with other treatments to maximize results. The S Lift is carried out as a day procedure – there’s no need for you to stay in hospital overnight. You’ll need to stay in the recovery room for a coupe of hours after your operation and will need a friend or family member to take you home, and come back the next day for us to remove bandages. You’ll also need to take between 10 and 14 days off of work to allow for recovery. Like all procedures, you’ll find much more information right here on the website.
Rhinoplasty is medical name for what is more commonly referred to as a nose job, or the reshaping of the nose and it’s one of the most commonly carried out forms of cosmetic surgery. Because this surgery is about reshaping the nose, it in many ways can be considered an art form, with the aim being to create a natural appearance. If you are concerned about the shape or size of your nose, or you’ve had trauma to your nose or have airway difficulties, than you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty. This operation can be carried out under general anesthetic or twilight sedation. For the majority of patients, all incisions are hidden within the nose, and so can’t be seen. The skin is lifted and the underlying bone and cartilage is sculpted as necessary. A splint will be applied which must remain in place for 7 days – the is to protect your nose and reduce swelling. You’ll experience some swelling which will dies down after five to ten days and your nose may feel a little blocked – similar to having a cold, and this may last for between one and two weeks. Most patients report that nose jobs are more or less pain free, but with some discomfort from having a blocked nose.
Labiaplasty is the reshaping or reduction of the labia minora which is the medical name for the inner lips of the opening to the vagina. Whilst many of the procedures undertaken at Academy Face and Body are for slightly older people, the average age for people undergoing this procedure is actually about 22 – lots of girls are not confident in the appearance of their vulva, and labiaplasty allows them to address these concerns. The labia will naturally change in size and appearance as women age and after child birth, again this procedure is good for women who want to address this by reshaping and/or reducing the labia minor. Radio surgery is used to allow a shorter recovery and healing period. You’ll need about five to ten days off of work and most patients will experience mild to moderate discomfort – we’ll prescribe some pain killers to offset this, and then after a day or two recommend that you switch to over the counter pain killers.
If you’re wanting to improve the appearance of your eye brows, then feather touch brows is a great option. This is a method of cosmetic tattooing using a micro blade which is used to insert colour, using strokes which resemble the natural appearance of hair growth. The treatment is suitable for people who want a fuller appearing brow after over plucking, people who desire a specific shape of brow that can’t be achieved through natural growth, or people with scarring or gaps in their brows.

Unwanted hair can be an issue for both men and women. IPL hair removal is a non invasive cosmetic treatment which uses light and heat for both hair removal and to treat unwanted skin conditions, including redness and scarring, flat benign lesions uneven skin colouring, and unwanted dark facial and body hair. At Academy Laser Clinics, your laser hair removal will be carried out by a qualified Dermal Therapist, holding nationally recognized qualifications who will work under the supervision and guidance of a doctor. For hair loss, this treatment removes hair at the anagen stage – the first of three stages of the hair growth cycle. Because you this, you’ll need a number of treatment sessions – somewhere between six and ten. Your individual needs will be discussed at your initial consultation.
Dermapen medical grade skin needling is used to promote the regeneration of collagen and elastin of the skin through a natural healing process. As well as being an effective acne treatment to reduce the acne scars, it can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including reducing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing the appearance of stretch marks, traumatic and surgical scars, and for reducing the appearance of melisma and hyperpigmentation.
AFB continues to expand the range of advanced cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures available at our state of the art Day and Private Hospital facilities and will soon offer the latest techniques in tummy tuck (known medically as abdominoplastry) and breast augmentation or breast implant.
A tummy tuck isn’t designed to be for weight loss, it’s used for achieving a more defined and contoured abdomen or stomach. This surgery is carried out under general anesthetic and will involve the removal of excess fat and skin from around the stomach and abdominal area. During the surgery, depending upon individual needs, the stomach muscles may also be tightened. This surgery requires about three hours to complete, and a stay in hospital for a couple of nights.
Breast augmentation (breast implants) are a high demand cosmetic surgery procedure requested by women who wish to enlarge and improve the appearance or symmetry of their breasts. Breast augmentation is generally an out-patient procedure performed under twilight sedation at our Day Hospital or under general anesthesia at Private Hospital facilities.
