Dr Oates performs Endoscopic brow lifts at the government-licensed Academy Day Hospital under a combination of local anaesthetic and twilight sedation. The procedure takes approximately 60-90 minutes. The lift is done internally with small illuminated telescopes about the size of a pencil. A number of small incisions are strategically placed behind the hairline, however in some cases a larger external incision may be chosen. If this is the case, it will be discussed with Dr Oates during your consultation prior to surgery. During the procedure, the eyebrows are elevated and the lines across the forehead are reduced.
Approximately 1-2 weeks are generally taken off work by Endoscopic brow lift patients, depending on the level of physicality in their industry.
After the procedure, the forehead will be covered with a bandage and the stitches/staples within the hairline will be covered with an ointment. Stitches/staples are removed 6-10 days after the operation.
Pain is usually minimal and minor swelling and bruising may travel downwards to affect the eyelids. The head needs to be elevated with extra pillows in bed to reduce swelling. Most patients are able to return to normal activities within 2 weeks of the procedure, however all high impact exercise should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
Two internal dissolving clips are used to hold the brow up, which may be felt under the skin for up to 1 year. They do not produce visible lumps.
Moderate discomfort due mainly to the swelling is felt by brow lift patients and can be managed with Pandadol or Pandadeine Forte. No Nurofen or Aspirin should be taken.
Your pre- and post-operative care is managed by our registered nurses and includes pre-operative assessment and post-operative wound management.
Occasionally a patient may notice it can takes 6 months for the hair to grow back resulting in small ‘bald spots’ and/or some numbness or pins and needles in the forehead, which usually settles.
Your first step is an initial consultation with Dr Oates. If you have a referral you will be able to claim some of the cost of the consultation from Medicare. If Dr Oates decides you are a suitable candidate for Liposuction and you want to go ahead, a booking for surgery and the pre operative assessment is scheduled. The usual waiting time is three to four weeks.
You may wish to speak with our Nurse Consultant prior to seeing Dr Oates. During this complimentary consultation, both surgical and non surgical options will be discussed to treat your concern(s).
